For people that want to "Get Going" (G squared)! There are so many things that we say we are going to do when we have the time, or when we can go with friends. So why not do them now, and make new friends along the way?
We are dedicated to building a community of atheists, agnostics, freethinkers, skeptics, etc. within the Iowa Corridor. We exist to allow non-religious people to share their thoughts, ideas, and viewpoints. The Corridor A-Team is meant to be a place where we can be ourselves and enjoy our various interests without religion or other superstitions playing a central role.
We have lots of information in our "About" section on the menu at the top, so check it out!
If you can't find answers to your questions there, please feel free to email us at info@corridor-a-team.com.
Hope to see you soon!

"The Corridor A-Team, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, are Brother Sam's kind of atheists." - Brother Sam Singleton

Welcome to the Meetup for the Corridor Secularists - a meetup for those individuals and families with a religion-free worldview in the Iowa City-Cedar Rapids area.
Please feel free to join us at any of our events to meet members and other local atheists and freethinkers in the Corridor area. All are welcome to come and discuss atheist philosophies, the religious influence in America, or any other topics of interest. The intent of this Meetup is to form a community of atheists, agnostics, humanists, freethinkers, and other non-religious persons or families within the Iowa City-Cedar Rapids Corridor. If you are searching for just such a community or are interested in learning more about the views of our members, join us at any of our Meetup events. We look forward to meeting you!
After joining our group, be sure to also join the other Corridor secular group, the Corridor A-Team (listed in the banner on the left side of the page).
Corridor Secularists was established with the help of the Iowa Secularists, a statewide nonprofit organization committed to creating local communities of religion-free Iowans, educating the public on living without religion, engaging in positive secular activities, and keeping the Wall of Separation strong. If you are interested in getting assistance to start a local group in your area, please contact the Iowa Secularists at development@iowasecularists.org.
The Crabs are a laid back running and bicycling group. Organizing this group is a hobby for me. I gladly incur the Meetup.com cost and I do not charge for membership.
We host group runs and rides at various times and skill levels. Occasionally we join up with other running and cycling groups in the area as well.
Should you find that the events that we host do not fit what you are looking for, please post an Idea or email an organizer and suggest a Place, Time, and Difficulty level that you would like to see. We will try our best to make it happen.
I also encourage members to become event hosts. Setting events up is actually very easy and a good way to find out if other people are looking for the same schedule.
I look forward to meeting you,
-Lucas Boddicker (CRABS Organizer)
The "Cedar Rapids 20 Something Book Club" is for men and women in their twenties who would like to read a good book and meet new people outside of their daily lives at work or school.
Why the twenties? Simply because I am relatively new to the area and am hoping to meet more people my age, however, don't take it too literally. Anyone who is interested is welcome.
My hope is that during our meetups, in addition to the main purpose of discussing a monthly book, we can go out for dinner or coffee, get to know one another and possibly watch some books-to-movies. I'm always open to suggestions so if you ever have any ideas, please let me know!
We recently moved here from Arizona where we were members of a community wine club. Once a month we would take turns hosting a get-together at each other's homes. Each guest/couple would bring a bottle of their favorite wine (or something new they'd like to try), individual wine glasses, and an appetizer or dessert. Nothing fancy schmancy, just good wine, good food, and good conversation once a month. No kids unless noted in event description. We are in our early 30's but any legal drinking age welcome.

Iowa City is full of talented individuals but there is a lack of community around web design so I thought I'd start one. This Meetup is for anyone interested web design including user experience, graphic design and information architecture.
Natural Path meditation is a simple and natural practice in which we meditate on the heart. Through meditation, we learn to regulate our minds, calming our thoughts as we learn to take the heart as our guide. This method offers us a means by which we can evolve from our present condition towards a future that realizes our full spiritual potential. There are no fees or charges for learning the practice. The only requirement is a willingness to learn and practice the system.
This group will meet to bring together buyers, sellers and financiers of investment real estate property. Members will generally live in a 100 mile radius of Iowa City, but residential and commercial properties to be bought and sold could be anywhere.

Most real estate investors would agree that financing is the most critical aspect of creating a successful real estate business, and this group will be discussing creative ways to bring together investors and funding using commercial, private and creative methods.

Iowa City has lots of talented people who could become great game developers, but we haven't found one another yet. This group is for anyone interested in developing video games. And by anyone, we mean anyone -- no previous game development experience required! Making games takes a huge plethora of skills -- sound effects, music composition, lighting, level design, programming, art, storytelling, animation -- you name it, it's part of game development. Even if you have just one very specific skill, you can (and should) get involved in the process. We'll get together for 48-hour game jams, show-off-your-game parties, and maybe even larger-scale game projects among all of our members!
"There is nothing--absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats." - Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows Come meet other kayaking enthusiasts and experience outdoor adventures in Eastern Iowa and beyond. Anyone interested in exploring the great outdoors from a kayak both near and far is welcome to join. Owning a kayak is not required. Fishing is optional. We have tremendous opportunities locally for exploring many, varied water trails. Anticipate longer trips from Wisconsin to, perhaps, Wyoming!
A group for people who want to learn how to make their dreams come true. How to cultivate financial independence, dynamic health, and emotional well-being.
Young Stamford was the guy who introduced Watson to Holmes. We are the YOUNGER Stamfords. The Younger Stamfords began with a meeting in 1988, convened by Dick Caplan, at that point a new member of the Baker St. Irregulars, with the investiture of "Dr. Jackson". Back on that snowy winter's night the arrival of 28 people forecast a healthy future. The group adopted its name eventually because of Caplan's interest in the character, Young Stamford, and some biographical information he had published, and which later became a more complete biography published in 1994. We became an official scion society of the Baker St. Irregulars in 1995. Meetings are held semi-annually, near November 1 and May 1. The annual dues are $2.21 and are strictly voluntary. Likewise, there are no other obligations except to enjoy Sherlockian information and companionship.
Meet other local Scrapbookers for conversation, inspiration and fun! Come to a Community Crop Event to swap techniques and show off your page layouts! A Community Crop is a great way to make time for scrapbooking away from the distractions of everyday life!
Current goals for the group (Updated 10/3/11):
-Current specific activities/action items: Get familiar w/ Unity and git. First group project requirements are loosely defined. Group discussion boards setup and active. Continue to define requirements for first group project.
Eastern Iowa seems to have very little Video Game development activity. I started this group in the hopes of meeting some cool people passionate about Video Game development, whether it be art, programming, design, indie topics, etc.
Who should consider joining:
-Current Indie developers (Designers, Developers/programmers, Artists, musicians)
-Those in other industries looking to move to their passion of developing video games!
-Those looking to learn more about the industry of Indie games.
-Ideally you have some related skill (beginner to advanced) that relates to the industry (programming, music, art, design) but this is NOT required.
(Ie- If you just like to PLAY video games but haven't done ANYTHING related to creating them (previous programming experience, created art, written music) this may not be for you)
General group goals:
-Meet and develop great relationships w/ local passionate developers, artists and designers.
-Continuing learning for all individuals in the group.
Let's get together and talk about our passion and share some ideas, start a team or two and see how we can make this group a great and fun asset to all of us!
UPDATE:
Recently I was asked via email about more details for the group. I thought my reply might add a little more about how I envision the group so I have added it here:
Initially I hope for the meetup group to be a relaxed place/group for people interested/passionate in Game design to meet and expand their network of like minded people to bounce ideas off of or learn from, etc. I have spent some time trying to find others in the area with not much success. Hopefully this group will solve this problem.
As the group matures, I envision it to be a place to discuss problems, talk about using new/old tools (Programming/modelling/whatever), create teams, maybe have competitions (quick game creation, artwork, modelling) to keep things fun.
For me personally, I hope it to be a group I can constantly learn things from and meet some guys/gals that are passionate that are interested in making a team to start working on games.
Ideally everyone gets involved enough to start creating an actual portfolio of work that they can use if they decide they want to go work for a game developer vs. working as an Indie developer.
Getting a job the industry depends a lot more on actual work on a game project vs. any real education one might have.
Who the group is for:
Programmers: People that do the coding. People familiar with using game engines (Unity, Unreal, C4) fit here as well. (I fit here)
Concept artists: People that do the initial sketches and paints of the game world and game objects. (I can do a little bit of this but very, very crude. Would love to improve)
2D Artists: People that do pixel art, sprites, 2d animation. (I suck at this)
Modellers/3D artists: People that do 3D modelling/3D animation based on sketches/paints or just from their own heads! (I'd like to learn how to do this well)
Musicians/Composers/Sound Engineers: People that are interested in doing sound assets and music composition for a game! (I do a little of this too)
Designers: People that come up with the game, game rules, gameplay, etc. In my opinion, designers should have some experience in some other of the above spots. (I also am interested in design as well)
Video Game Entreprenuers and Indie Business Interest: Those that are interested in learning or talking about the business aspect of Video games and/or Independent game development.
I would say that skill levels can range from beginner (no experience) to advanced (had experience working on a AAA title at some dev company). If you're passionate in any aspect of game design/creation then this group is for you!
Who the group is NOT for:
Dudes that just like to play video games that really have no desire or passion to make them.
For now, as the meetup is newly created, I'd like to just see how much interest I can get. Hopefully there are more than one or two others passionate about making games in the area!

There are lots of playgroups for stay at home moms and dads, but nothing seems to be around for us busy working parents looking to arrange play dates in the evenings or on the weekends.
Passion Driven Professionals is an informal meetup for creatives, entrepreneurs, and career changers who have a heart's desire to turn their passion into business success.
My dog doesn't get along with all dogs and it's expensive to board her at the kennel. I would like to meet other dog owners who would like to have multiple people they can trust to take care of their dog when on a vacation that the dog can't come along on. Everyone must be willing and able to reciprocate. I envision building a network where lots of people can start setting up meetings with each other to make sure their dogs get along, then be able to have a list of possible people to call when needed. Anyone without a dog who just wants to dog sit every once in awhile for no pay or a small gift is quite welcome, too.
This group is for anyone interested in art of writing speculative fiction short stories or novels regardless of if they are published or not. Speculative fiction can include horror, science fiction, and fantasy. The format would be informal with members presenting work prior to the meeting, and then getting together to discuss how we can improve our work. I look forward to hearing from you.

I decided to start this group to meet other women in Iowa City, especially those who own their own businesses. The purpose of the group will be to network and offer support and friendship. This group is limited to one business in each market; i.e. one lawyer, one massage therapist, one Chiropractor, one Realtor etc.
This group is for writers who would like some support, encouragement and constructive feedback. The art of writing is a lonely experience. Please join us so we can share our work and hone our craft together. This group is open to anyone who is writing and is able to offer constructive criticism and encouragement to others. In case your writing is speculative fiction: fantasy, sci-fi, etc., there is another group for that. In case you would like to be thought of as a writer rather than actually getting down your 500 or a thousand words a day with the intention of publishing, this group may not be for you.
